We have a client in O'Fallon, IL, whose property's backyard overlooks a small lake. However, they wanted to protect their land from erosion when water levels rise, as well as upgrade their front landscape. That's why they reached out to our skilled team! We began by removing their existing landscape beds and creating an entirely new one. We added stone edging along its border before filling it with rocks and various plants to achieve a cohesive, fresh look. Then, riprap was installed along the property's shoreline and in the front yard close to the road, consisting of larger, light-colored stones to assist with erosion control. Finally, we repaired the grass damaged during construction by spreading seeds and covering them with straw for protection.

We Installed a New Landscape Bed in Front of Our Client's House

This project involved multiple steps, with the first being the landscape bed installation in front of our client's house. They already had existing landscape beds, but they wanted to freshen up their curb appeal with a new and improved layout. So, our crew got to work removing the beds, plants, and surrounding grass to prepare the area. Then, we installed the new landscape bed, cutting its edge to extend from the driveway to the opposite side of the house. Stone edging was placed along its border to define its shape before we added a rock ground cover and a variety of small, charming plants. That way, they have a more cohesive, fresh aesthetic for their front yard!

Once we finished transforming our client's front landscape, we moved on to the next step of this project: erosion control. The land in their backyard runs along a small lake, so their goal was to maintain its structural integrity and stability. To do this, we installed riprap along the shoreline, or a thick barrier of larger, light-colored stones. We also did the same thing in the front yard near the road to further improve drainage on their property. Not only do these stones help safeguard their land from erosion, but they also add a natural appeal.

The Final Step of This Landscaping Project Was to Repair the Damaged Grass

With the landscape bed and riprap installations complete, the final step of this project was to repair any grass damaged during the process. So, we meticulously spread seeds where the grass was torn up and covered them with straw to keep them in place, ensuring they weren't washed or blown away, or eaten by critters. That way, they had the best chance of germinating and filling in these areas with new grass! Now our client has a beautiful, purposeful landscape design that upgrades their curb appeal, plus extra protection for their land from erosion.
