Transforming This Outdoor Area: Pavilion, Fire Pit, Outdoor Kitchen & More

When our client in Edwardsville, IL, reached out to our team, they wanted to upgrade their outdoor living space for maximum enjoyment. They had a large area to work with, so we worked with them to plan out two patios. We used high-quality pavers to build the first one, which also featured a fire pit in the middle and a retaining wall along one side with a raised planter bed. For the other, we covered it with a beautiful pavilion to shelter it from the elements before installing an outdoor kitchen and fireplace underneath. With these new features, our client can now boast a cohesive outdoor living area tailored to their needs.

This Outdoor Living Project Involved Installing a Patio, Retaining Wall & Fire Pit

Our client has a large backyard, so we planned to create two distinct areas to suit their needs and help them get the most out of it. This outdoor living project was extensive, so we started with the installation of the first patio. We used high-quality Belgard pavers that boast more earthy tones to build it, which we complemented with a natural stone veneer gas-burning fire pit in the center.

Additionally, we constructed a Versa-Lok retaining wall along one side of the patio, as well as a raised planter bed with mulch and small plants. These features blend a modern aesthetic with natural colors and textures, creating a cohesive space perfect for hosting or simply spending a night by the fire.

The next step was to build a pavilion over another patio.

Once the first patio area was complete, the next step was to move on to the next one! We used the same pavers for the patio as the other, but surrounded it with ones that have more gray tones. Then, we built a 16-by-16-foot pavilion over it, which is supported by small columns capped with a stone veneer. A rich, red-colored wood and green metal roof were used to make it a focal point, bringing natural beauty and dimension to this patio area.

An Outdoor Kitchen & Fireplace Were Installed Under the Pavilion

The final step of this project was to construct the outdoor kitchen and fireplace underneath the pavilion. The outdoor kitchen features a stone veneer island that matches the pavilion columns, as well as a sleek stone countertop. Other amenities it includes are a sink, gas grill, pizza oven, and storage cabinets and drawers. That way, its function is tailored to our client's needs, allowing them to cook meals while spending time outside.

To complete this patio space, we installed a wood-burning outdoor fireplace capped with a natural stone veneer to maintain consistency across the finishes of these different features. This fireplace fits perfectly at the far end of the pavilion between the kitchen countertops, integrating seamlessly into the design. Now, our client can enjoy fireside warmth on both patios!
