Lawn Restoration in Bethalto - Sod Installation & Landscape Bed Design

We had clients in Bethalto, IL that were looking to repair their threadbare lawn and give their sparsely populated garden a bit more charm. We started off by helping them pick out mini trees and shrubs to add to their property and then we helped them pick the perfect places to plant them.

After that, we added a rock ground covering as well as edging to the landscape beds. The edging was carefully selected to ensure that it matched the covering and added a little dimension to the landscape beds. Finally, the most impactful part of this project was installing the sod which gave this property a fresh new look almost instantly.

We Strategically Planted Shrubs & Mini Trees

You can have a pristine lawn but if it’s not complemented by a few additional plants, it can end up looking a little bit bare. That’s why we started off this project by helping our clients pick out some shrubs and mini trees for their yard. We recommended that they choose different species of shrubs and trees to balance out the colors around the yard. That's because overly uniform plants can blend into the rest of the yard, making them more difficult to notice.

Their positions were picked out strategically to ensure that they were spaced as evenly as possible. After consulting with the owners to ensure that the placement worked best for them, we got to work planting.

Next, we added rock ground coverings and edging to the landscape beds.

When it came time to install ground coverings in their landscape beds, our clients decided to go with rocks. They made this choice because rocks:

• Create a different texture, visually breaking up the lawn
• Aren't affected by Illinois winters
• Don’t require much maintenance
• Don’t decompose or attract bugs

Our clients also picked out an edging that was a similar color to the rock ground covering to create a more uniform look. A well-done edging job will add some depth to the beds, making the transition from the landscape bed to the lawn more clearly delineated.

Sod Installation for an "Instant Lawn"

The lawn that we saw when we first started our work would have taken a lot of time to bring back to proper health. Instead, we laid down sod. Sod is essentially pre-grown grass, giving you an "instant" lawn as soon as installation is finished.

To install the sod, we started by removing what was left of their lawn, as sod can’t be placed over existing grass. We then tilled the yard and added a layer of top soil to it to set up the sod for success.

Once the ground was prepared, we laid down the rolls of sod and made sure that it was pressed firmly into the ground to ensure good root-to-soil contact. Once the sod was installed, we trimmed around the edges where the sod ran against the sidewalks and landscape beds to create a nice and uniform look.
